iPhone What exactly happens if I restore as new on iTunes?

Hello everyone,

I have read numerous places to always jailbreak as new instead of previous backups. I've had my backup for 4 years or so without starting fresh, so I'm wondering if that can cause any dilemmas while jailbreaking; something about bits of jailbreak data compiling and making my device slower than others. If I start as a new backup, I'll lose my App data, messages, Notes, and basically everything right? I want to preserve those. AppBackup doesn't seem to be doing the trick either. I'm running a 6 plus 64gb. Thank you!

I have been restoring as new every time I upgrade my iOS. Back in the days of restoring with blobs I would often just restore from backup to keep everything. Anyways, my go to tool was AppBackup for all my App Store apps (mainly for games). Does that app no longer work for App Store apps? If it does, I highly recommend it because I have never had any issues or lost any game data.

But for messages and notes and stuff like that, there are other solutions. There's several options I belive. Have you looked into PKGBackup? That might allow you to backup everything that's not an App Store app.

I keep a clean backup stored on a flash drive in my desk. If I do a restore I just restore the backup and have no problems doing it. Before making the jump from iOS 7 to iOS 8 I used iLex Rat to clean anything on my phone out then restored and updated. It worked well.

@BumpyFlatline I have looked into PkgBackup, and it continually crashes on my device. Have you heard anything about old jailbreak data "seeping" into new backups, thus making backups prone to more crashes?

@JPNFRK7 Is that program free? My main question is whether or not restoring from new somehow increases the integrity of the backup for jailbreaking purposes.

Also, how do you move iTunes backups to a flash drive, or desktop for that matter?

Restoring as new is just how it sounds.
