What Expresscard 34 FW400 for my MBP???

hey, I'm looking to get an expresscard 34 card with at least 2 firewire 400's for my 17" C2D Macbook Pro. I'm not at all familiar with any PCI expansion, and I was wondering a couple of things...
are expresscard 34's OS specific? I really want to use it with windows too. Will drivers be required?
Will I have to buy a specific tool to fit it?
Does the Expresscard format slow down data transfer from the FW400?
I'd appreciate any help
