Has anyone summed up so net net what are the features from iPad OS 16 which will come through and would be available on 2018 iPad Pro's ?

I am hoping except Center Stage everything ? But I may be wrong !

No Display Scaling means no external Monitor Support for 2018 iPad Pro's ?

Display Scaling is for the iPad itself.

Stage Manager is the one that does extended desktop mode on external monitors.

You can still connect the 2018 iPad Pro to external monitor but it will be in mirrored mode (with black bars) same as what’s available now.

It's a very minor update for non M1 iPads. iPadOS 15 was a bigger update than this for those devices.

So I am still perplexed what it brings to 2018 iPad Pro if rest all is only for M1. Then what is left other than that ?
very little, especially if you don't live in the Apple ecosystem (I don't) and don't care about the messaging and sharing/collaboration features.
I would say it's basically the weather app, a few minor improvements to the file app, improvements to the mail app and live texts that now also works on videos.

I installed the beta on my iPad mini, which should get the same things as the 2018 pro. It is definitely not a huge update, but the app updates are nice. I graduated yesterday and the photos duplicate detector was amazing after airdropping pictures from everyone's phones. There are also the message changes, family photo libraries, the new combined dictation mode, the home app, and probably more I can't think about. Not too many giant things, but some niceties.

Yeah it's a nicer update if you have an iPhone and are in the Apple ecosystem

Macstories has a pretty comprehensive summary of the features coming on iOS 16. Simply discount the ones mentioned above.

App updates. Collaboration. Weather. Focus mode. Joycon support. Not very major ones.

It's not bad if you are in the Apple eco system.

I fear the non M1 iPads might be treated like their intel counterparts in the future. Right now the only iPads that didn't get the M1 are the Mini and the regular iPad, it will be telling to see what the regular iPad gets this fall.

Thank you - I've been wondering this myself.

The new weather app…

That aside there are the changes to the files app and all the system wide changes that are happening across iOS and macOS like the improvements to the mail app.

Over the coming years there will be more iPhone, iPad and Mac features that will be exclusive to M1 and M2 powered devices.

It you have an older device with currently a good trade in value then I would strongly consider upgrading this year. :):apple:

Me Personally I am waiting for the new redesigned iPad Pro later this year that the rumour mill is talking about.

At the top of my wish list is a 4k display on the iPad Pro. Hopefully this will happen in 2023 as the new chips have immense performance but not at the cost or battery life.
The will probably never happen and it's better like this. iPad resolution is plenty and if despite the constant CPU power increase they manage to increase the efficiency too, this will hopefully translate in better battery life, instead of being wasted in an increase in PPI (which by the way is a more accurate way of measuring sharpness than resolution when comparing different aspect ratios, as 4k can mean different resolutions on different aspect ratios)
