Hey guys I recently got an emac from ebay and I want to use my macbook pro (June 09) dvd drive to install leopard on the emac. Iv never used target disc mode before and I havnt really ever used firewire :S (I know that probably sounds shocking to allot of you but iv never really had too...)

So my question is what Firewire cable do I need to do this? I dont know as I see theres different pin types.

Thanks guys

You need a FW 6-pin (eMac) to 9-pin (MBP) cable.

Are you sure the eMac has the minimum system requirements for Leopard (G4 CPU with 867MHz)?

Do you have a universal binary retail version of Leopard? If you wanna install Leopard on your eMac with your gray restore DVDs, then they will only have X86 drivers and won't run on a PPC alone.

Installation might work, as your emac will be handled as an external drive in Target Disk Mode, but you can't boot the eMac from that installation.

Yeah I actually have an emac with a 1.25gz g4 processor and 756mb of ram ( il upgrade it too the 2gb it can take next week.

It just wont read any dvd's not even film dvd's but normal cd's (music ones) work fine...

So il have to go get a new dvd drive for it later so for the moment il just use the mbp to install leopard.

And thanks for your help! really appreciated

edit: I own the retail leopard disc with the holographic box. (My mbp has restore discs and a snow leoaprd disc which i know wont work on old PPC macs)

I just plan to use the mbp's dvd drive to run the retail leopard disc and in target disc mode install it to my emac.
