ive ripped some bluray movies onto my mac, what format should i convert or rip to from now on to play on my apple tv?

MPEG4, either h.264 or not (but I would go with h.264 for higher quality).

Straight from the Apple website:

Video formats supported:
H.264 and protected H.264 (from iTunes Store): Up to 5 Mbps, Progressive Main Profile (CAVLC) with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution: 1280 by 720 pixels at 24 fps, 960 by 540 pixels at 30 fps) in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
iTunes Store purchased video: 320 by 240 pixels or 640 by 480 pixels
MPEG-4: Up to 3 Mbps, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution: 720 by 432 pixels at 30 fps) in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

ok i'll give that a try, thanks

That seems to be a pretty nice app, from what I've read. What drive do you have connected to your Mac and what's its interface? I've been thinking about picking one up.

i've got the lacie d2 external, also ordered the xbox 360 hddvd drive since it works straight out of the box, soon to be ripping hd dvds

So, if I'm understand you correctly, you bought the xbox HD-DVD drive and have it connected to your mac by USB cable, and you use Win anyDVD to rip HD-DVDs with it? Can you also play the HD-DVDs on your mac through Windows? Is it restricted to Boot Camp, or can Parallels or Fusion do it, too?

TIA

You inspired me... I have a PS3, and after reading this thread I had the brainstorm... "I bet there's a way to rip Blu-Ray with my PS3."

Lo and behold, there is (requires linux though). Feel like an idiot for not even thinking about this before. Thanks!
