Adrift in a sea of possibilities
Games are a lot cheaper and a lot easier to come by nowadays. It used to be a trip to the store, waiting for another decent game to hit the shelves, then dishing out $40 plus for anything, no matter how crappy.

Enter today. Games are downloadable. Games go on sale for insane prices. Some games are free, or 'pay what you want'. A lot of us spend more time collecting games than playing them. If, like me, you regard a well conceived and executed game to be like a good book, which games did you invest the time and effort to actually complete? Great, memorable experiences, regardless of platform.

Here are the games I can claim as finished:

Too many to list lol, I always try to finish a game unless it's just unbearably bad.

Games I've finished over the last few months:
Dragon Age Origins/Awakenings (best game I've ever played)
Diablo
Journey

I've been working on Diablo 3 since Juneish and just started Vampire: Masquerade - Bloodlines, so hopefully they'll end up on that list as well.

I think at this point it's more a case of how many games haven't you beat :p Games are so cheap these days that I've been purposely limiting what I buy for quite some time now. They just won't get played otherwise.

I've got 35 left to go.

Great topic: :D

Games I've finished:

-Wolfenstein 3D (DOS)
- Sid Meier's Civilization I (DOS)
- Transport Tycoon
- Transport Tycoon Deluxe for Windows (with mods and updates - awesome)
- Open TTD (Mac)
- Doom I (dos)
- Doom II (dos)
- Need for Speed High Stakes
- Need for Speed Porsche 2000 (great game)
- Some of the later Need for Speed titles which EA sent to me free of charge
- EA Sports F1 Challenge 99-02 - won the championships

- rFactor with mods:
--- WSC 1970 - won Le Mans with 4.9L 5-speed 917LH #25, reached a highest speed of 389km/h on the Mulsanne Straight in qualifying
--- WSC 1970 - won the championship with Wyer 917 KH 4.9L

I had a lot of set-up data from Louisa Piech's real Salzburg Porsche team who ran the real #25 917LH at Le Mans in 1970, so I could transfer all of that into rFactor and got the virtual 917 #25 running very well. It was a scary fast car - quite loose in its cornering, it needed a precise touch. You had to set it up with a nice line into a corner and then stick with that line, no sudden changes.

But if you gave it that, it rewarded you with incredible lap times - if someone else got past you in a corner, you'd wait for the next straight and then go past them like they were going backwards. It had 600hp and the 5 speed gearbox with the aerodynamic long-tail body. Easily the quickest car in a straight line. 30km/h faster down the Mulsanne straight - with the twist taken flat-out at 387km/h or better with just a gentle touch of steering.

I had steering wheel, gear-selection and brake/throttle/clutch pedals so I was able to drive it quite well using heel/toe method into corners.

I've got other mods in rFactor, including F1 1979 which has the 1979 ground-effect F1 cars, including the terrible turbocharged Renault with its recalcitrant handling and horrible turbo-lag. I never did get to grips with those brutal cars, very hard to handle - with very hard suspension, huge downforce. Kyalami was a fun track for these cars, but hard work on that really, scary fast track. The Renault had the most power, but it had turbo-lag and poor handling that reduce the effectiveness of that power, so on most tracks, the Ligier-Cosworth with its Ford DFV engine and 6 speed gearbox was the best, even with much less power.

Other than that - I mainly spend my time in Flight Simulator X with Concorde, flying between continents at high speed.

Hm..lemme see if I can name them all...

Glad to hear the props on Dragon Age. I recently bought it along with the enhanced version of the Witcher, didn't know which one to dive into first. I think I'll give Dragon Age a go, then!

Tell me when you finally beat World of Warcraft :D.

If you can beat Civ, which someone listed above, surely you can beat WoW?, I did think about a list but I can't even remember what I have played let alone what I finished, does winning on God-Emperor count for civ? Does heroic DS on farm count for wow?

Note I really irritated myself recently when I brought a steam sale game that I had already brought boxed years ago and de-installed from lack of interest /sigh.

You uys finished more games than me....

Does that inlude cheating?

Games i finished from start to finish are

Monkey island 2 (ipad)
Beaneath a Steel Sky (ipad)
Flight of the Amazon Queen.(ipad)

All Amiga stuff, so technically i had lots of practice

This thread just reminds me of my growing backlog of unfinished games, mostly due to all the great indie game bundles that have been active lately... :p

The first game I ever played all the way through was Ultima 7 Part 2: Serpent Isle. I think the game I completed most recently was Limbo.

I've been chipping away at Dark Souls lately, but it will be a while before I conquer it... :)

PC:
Doom 1
Unreal
Doom 3
Half Life 2

Mac:
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
Medal of Honor: Spearhead
Medal of Honor: Breakthrough
Call of Duty
Call of Duty 2

iOS:
Angry Birds
Angry Birds Seasons
Angry Birds Rio

Most hours to date:
X-Plane (8, 9 and 10) ;)

Mine's a relatively short list:

Finished:
Torchlight I (played 3 times, as 3 different characters)
DeathSpank I
DeathSpank II : Thongs of Virtue

Currently Working on:
Torchlight II
DeathSpank III : The Baconing

Played with the ExBf, but never played all the way through in any kind of story-mode:

Left for Dead
Left for Dead 2

I'm sure I have some on iOS that I've finished, but I do mostly puzzle-type games (Chuzzle, Bejeweled, Drop7) or board games (Monopoly, Milles Bourne, Yahtzee, Scrabble, etc) on my iPhone, so they don't have a real "end". I *am* slowly working my way through Plants vs Zombies, but at the rate I'm going, it'll take me a few years to finish it ;)

I don't even remember how many games I've done. but I guess many.

however, I do remember recent games I finished.

assassin's creed revelations, tom clancy's ghost recon the future solider, sleeping dogs, I am alive, the elder scroll V. skyrim, mass effect 3, battlefield 3. these games I finished in this year.

now, borderlands 2 is progressing (42% achievement), darksiders 2. I guess that I will preorder 'dishonored', 'hitman absolution'. too many games. no time.

Pc Games

I like to play games on computer. I Played many pc games most of Adventure games like: Prince of Persia All 5 games & God of War 3 games etc. Plz tell me when anybody got new games.

EverQuest.

That's right. After seven years of playing, culminating in being in the number one raid guild on my server as well geared cleric, I finished EverQuest.

Yes, EQ continued on but it was more of the same with each subsequent expansion. As far as I am concerned, I won EQ. I had an awesome time for seven years and I am done, have been for years now.

My current endeavor is to win World of Warcraft. Blizzard are very crafty though. This is not just any MMO. This themepark has so much to do I sometimes wonder if I will live long enough to win. They keep adding new rides. I am having lots of fun though and that's what counts.
