What games should I get?

What games should I get?
I am soon going to order an iMac (2.8-2GB-8800GS-5ooGB) and I would like some input on some good games to get. I will be also ordering Vista Home Premium for BootCamp so games for either OS.

I am really interested in Crysis, and after that Bioshock. Maybe someday COD4.

Any suggestions?

Sins of a Solar Empire and Command & Conquer 3 (plus expansion) are great real time strategy games if you are into that. Company of Heroes and World in Conflict are also great if you are more into the fighting portion of RTS games (as opposed to the base building and resource management).

Civilization IV (plus expansions) and Heroes V (plus expansions) are pretty awesome turn based strategy games (Heroes V also has tactics and RPG elements to it).

Oblivion and Titan Quest are great RPGs, Oblivion can be customized to hell and back so it's a pretty vast game. Titan Quest follows the good ol Diablo II formula but it's still a great game.

Obviously as far as shooters go you can't go wrong with The Orange Box and Unreal Tournament III (and it could use a little more players), Crysis, COD4 and Bioshock (which you already mentioned) are must-haves of course. Many don't agree with me on this one but if you like horror shooters Doom III and FEAR are must-haves, I personally enjoyed the hell out of these shooters but try the demos first to see if you like the style of the games.

As for novelty games, try Audiosurf (dirt cheap) and the Spore Creature Creator (dirt cheap as well) both are pretty fun and interesting experiences. Spore CC will also let you get a leg up on what I think is going to be another must-have, Spore (comes out in September).

Mass Effect is a really good RPG, too. If you want fantasy RPG, NWN2 +expansion is pretty good as well.

I highly recommend the Mac version of Quake Wars. Very fun with LOTS of replay value. (I've played over 50 hours and have only scratched the surface--I have only played one race so far and haven't tried the vehicles!) My first class-based shooter and I'm glad I gave it a shot.

Also keep an eye open for UT3, which should be out soon for Mac. Knock on wood. Gears of War is coming too.

For plain-old linear shooters, I for one feel Quake 4 and Prey are both better than Doom 3, much as I do like the atmosphere of Doom.

Looking further into the future, I eagerly await Starcraft 2 and Spore (the full version).

All of the above have Mac versions out or on the way. No rebooting for me!

Yeah, I think I'll prolly go with Crysis to start with than get Bioshock eventually.
I hadn't thought of FEAR as mentioned above, maybe that would be a good idea too.
And C&C3 is a at the top of my list.

By the way, what is the premise of Oblivion? I've heard of it but not really sure what it is...is it like an MMORPG or something?

No. Take away the "MO". It's a Massive rpg - there's a tonne (2 years worth) of user created content, tweaks, and mods out there.

Crysis, Bioshock and CoD 4 are all very good choices.

If you are into FPS, I would also suggest The Orange Box, it's dirt cheap and you get a fantastic bundle of games. Team Fortress 2 is very fun if you enjoy multiplayer. UT3 is coming for Mac, but if you are impatient (like me), give it a shot, you'll be able to run the game at 60 fps with everything maxed. If you like a good oldschool online FPS where you blow people up with big weapons, get it NOW.

For RPGs, Oblivion. You could get this game only and be busy for a year or two with all the content and mods available. If you enjoy single player RPGs, get Oblivion.

For MMOs, if you are one of the rare human being not playing World of Warcraft, try Lords of the Rings Online very very good PvE oriented MMO. Vanguard sounds good also but I don't know how it would run though, pretty demanding game.

With windows you'll be able to try demos for most of these games, try them out and see for yourself!

May I recommend a FPS called Urban Terror. It is a standalone mod and is superb fun with quite a few servers and players. Best of all, it is entirely free to download and play!

Enemy Territory Quake Wars is extremely enjoyable and has hundreds of active servers to choose from. I'm also partial to Battlefield 2142 - although I wouldn't buy it until EA release the 1.50 update patch for the Mac.
