Hi,
My ATI Radeon X1900 512MB RAM has just failed and unfortunately Apple won't replace it :-( (http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3420)

So l am trying to find a suitable replacement. I don't have much to spend so definitely looking for a sub £100 card. The X1900 did everything l need so not interested in having anything much better than that if that saves on cost.

Mac Pro Model 1,1 (2006)
Bus Speed 1.33 GHz
Dual-Core Intel Xeon 2.66 GHz

Any suggestions on suitable cards l could use? I don't mind NVIDIA or ATI.

Thanks.

The 5870 has been hit and miss on some Mac Pro 1,1's. It is a great card to be sure but I don't believe your Mac Pro 1,1 will ever see the full potential of the 5870, your architecture just won't utilize it. The 5770 is a much more sensible choice for the Mac Pro 1,1 and it is cheaper both in terms of initial cost as well as power consumption.

Thanks for all the quick replies :)

Looks like the Radeon HD 5770 is a good bet then, I'll have a look round the net.

Does it matter what version l get?? I see there are quite a few, for example on this page: http://www.misco.co.uk/applications...rytext=Radeon+HD+5770&image1.x=11&image1.y=11

The Sapphire Radeon HD5570 1GB PCI-Express Graphics Card and XFX Radeon HD5570 1GB PCI-Express Graphics Card look like good possibilities. What does everyone think?

5570 != 5770

:eek: Oops!! These numbers keep getting me totally confused, lol.

Annoying when you search a site for Radeon HD 5770 products it comes back with Radeon HD 5570, l didn't even notice!! Thanks for spotting my mistake.

:)
