There were numerous articles early last year about Sling Media working on a Sling client for the Apple TV.

http://www.engadget.com/2007/04/10/sling-media-working-on-apple-tv-compatibility/

Then, Dish bought them out and it seems like they canned it. Does anyone know if they are still planning on an Apple TV Sling client so I can watch my Slingbox on the Apple TV?

I really don't want the Sling Catcher (it's a pile of puke) but want the ability to watch my live and recorded shows from my Tivo/Slingbox combo on the Apple TV which I would put in my work out room.

Thanks.

I would really like this functionality too. Perhaps our friends at Boxee can look into this??? It would rock to be able to view my slingbox via the ATV.

My guess is that Sling and Appple couldn't agree on it, and that the Sling Catcher was Sling's attempt at this. I'm not buying a Sling Catcher though, no way.

The slingbox "placeshifts" any video content, I assume a ATV would work in that respect - but I am wanting to receive the slingbox feed (which I have connected to a DVR in another state) and watch on my ATV. I can watch on my Mac currently, and yes, I know I could hook up my Mac to my TV, but that isn't always practical and not able to just leave as is.

I don't understand - you're asking for your ATV to become a Slingbox? You can already pull stuff off of an ATV with a Slingbox to work on a computer.

I suppose you could use a SlingCatcher to pipe a feed into the ATV - assuming you could get a USB Tuner stick to work through something like Boxee or XBMC.

That article indicates that Sling was working on a feature to add AppleTV as a content source for Slingbox and not as a target for content delivered by the Slingbox.

I highly doubt it for one reason only (as far as an Apple sanctioned add-on by Sling). Apple filed a patent about six months ago for using a broadband internet connection to take media from your iTunes account and view it on any other Apple device, from any location.

Using Sling to do this would steal Apple's thunder in the "we did this first" segment.

What is curious though is that I recently read that HP had a media server capable of doing just this. One wonders if an Apple patent infringment lawsuit isn't forthcoming.

I think the OP wants to be able to watch his DVR on a DVR-less television, much in the same way that the SlingCatcher allows you to do.
