What happened to the speech to text feature I've read about and was looking forward to. Is that Siri? That is a huge feature the droid has that we don't.

What a load of bull! The speech to text is NOT the same as Siri and should be available on the 4. I guess I have my first great reason to jailbreak once someone enables this on the 4.

Iwas rumored to be there. Even saw screen shots with a little mic button next to the space bar.

It's only available on 4S, and it requires a data connection to work.

Siri has only ever been said to be available on the 4S. Never the 4 or older. Or an iPad coming to that!

It needs the newer processer to work properly. (I'm lead to believe!)

It is on the iPhone 4S only.

I'm actually pretty happy about this :)

iPhone 4 owners have had the best for over a year now. It's time for the 4s people to shine in the spotlight.

This will keep the demand/resale value of the 4s higher as well...

If you have no clue what you're talking about then shush!

Text-to-speech was exposed as a feature of iOS 5 BEFORE Apple unveiled the 4S. It was never made clear if it would make it into the final build. Obviously it has just been restricted from the iPhone 4 artificially.

I will accept the argument that perhaps SIRI wouldn't run as well on an iPhone 4, but simple speech-to-text would not have caused any problems. Want proof? Try Dragon Dictation for iPhone.

WTF do you think this thread is about??? NOT having Siri on 4 but speech-to-text. As in the same feature Android has included for some time.

Why are there so many clueless rebuttals...

speech-to-text in iOS 5 first link on Google search dated from August 7th.

EDIT: Even Apple's website is showing screen shots of the speech-to-text icon under the iOS 5 feature page. iOS 5 features - Scroll down to Twitter integration details and look at keyboard!

Yeah it's a beat situation. I watch my friends do this on their droids all the time. I know there are apps out there, but if one of the apps could integrate the button right into the mms keyboard keys. That would be gold!

Android's speech-to-text also requires a data connection.
