Are you logged in under the right account? I wouldn't know how you might have done that accidently, but you might want to check your Users system preference to make sure you are under your account.
It seems somehow your preferences were changed/erased. Does anyone else use your computer?

if i go under my macintosh hd, and select users, i can find all my folders- music, pictures, library, public, desktop etc. and i know that they are my usual ones (i customized all my icons), so how do i go back to that account?? again, logging in and out still leaves me at this just fresh/brand new screen that hasnt been customized-boring!

By any chance did you change your name on your home folder? i.e user name?

What you describe usually happens when someone does attempt to change the user name.

follow up....

it was what was thought, and was changed very easily-

To correct a home folder whose name has been changed:

1. Locate the User's folder on your hard disk and open it.

2. Select the home folder with the original short user name and the home icon. This folder usually contains a Desktop folder and a Library folder. Add "_new" to the end of the name so that you can distinguish it later.

3. Select the regular folder that has the name you used when you changed your original home folder. This folder should contain items you would expect to find in your original home folder, such as your Pictures folder, Documents folder, and so on. Change the name of this folder back to the original short user name.

4. Log out, then log in again and verify that items are back where they belong.

so if this helps anyone, please use.
