What happens if you put non-wireless AirPods on a wireless charging pad?

My wife has my old first gen AirPods with the normal wired case, but she texted me today and said they charge wirelessly. I'm like, umm, no they don't. So she sent me a video showing that when placed on the pad, the charging light on the pad lights up like it's charging, and then changes color when she takes them off. I told her not to put them on there because I don't know what sort of harm it could be doing to her AirPods, but does anyone know why in the world it would act like it's charging when it's the gen 1 launch case?

Nothing bad will happen. They just won’t charge.
