How much of the music does it retain? None? How do you manage what songs are held on the device?

Am I the only one who finds this unclear?

iTunes Match is not streaming. Once it's on your device it's on your device.

EDIT: If you want to delete individual tracks just swipe to the right like you do for any other list item on iOS.

When you are not connected to data, the music you downloaded from iTunes Match and any songs that were on your device before you enabled iTunes Match will be available on the device. Your music in the cloud will not be available for download.

When connected, you can download songs and as the other poster mentioned, delete them anytime.

So when you stream stuff, it doesn't automatically store any music? Streaming music would leave your device completely empty for later?

Even if you just play them?

What if I want to clear all the music that's been downloaded through Match onto my iPhone to free up space and start fresh? I'm currently over capacity memory-wise on my iPhone and am hoping I don't have to manually delete each individual track or album. I'm thinking there must be an easier way.

Thanks!

Settings / General / Useage. Then find Music in the top section (Storage), select it and swipe across the "All Music" line that appears and hit delete. This will delete all the downloaded music on your phone.

Or you can delete entire playlists, artists, genres, albums, etc. There should be a button if you scroll down to the bottom of the various lists.

Itunes match is done in a way that when you get on an airplane, it self-deletes during takeoff....;)

Jokes aside nothing happens, what you have synchronized stays so what you haven't is untouched but inaccessible unless the airplane has internet.
