So there's this device called the Apple Lightning to USB 3 camera adapter - despite its name, people quite often use it to take the output of something like a microphone/mixer (in USB-A form) and mix it with lightning power to both supply microphone audio to the iPhone and charge it (while supplying power to the microphone) via Lightning

What happens to devices like that now?

The way I see it there are 3 options but would appreciate any input

1) Apple makes a USB-C equivalent - that combines USB-A data and USB-C power to USB-C (is that even possible under the USB-C spec)
2) We use the existing dongle and some sort of Lightning to USB-C adaptor that will carry both the data and charge output from the Apple adaptor (does such an adaptor exist? You'd think so but I can't find one that doesn't say in big letters "no charging")
3) Something else - charge via magnetic maybe? This would charge the phone but wouldn't solve the problem of how to charge the external microphone (I think?)

Would appreciate any insight as I think I may have hit upon a use case that people aren't thinking of. That said, I'm looking for "How to Android people do it" and can't quite figure that out either...

Use the multiport adapter that’s already exist for the Macbooks. Or a small USB hub like Kingston Nucleum.

I must admit I was sceptical when I read this reply, but I'd say your answer is very likely the right one. Thank you.

The Apple multiport adaptor combines HDMI (can ignore this) but also USB-A and USB-C and outputs to USB-C - I wouldn't be surprised if that works.
