1. Automatically switched to the 5GB for $29.99 plan

2. AT&T charges X amount for every single MB from 251st MB

Or, else?

According to the activation e-mail, if you go over the 250MB it will suspend your data access until a) you purchase another 250MB for $14.99 or b) switch to the unlimited for $29.99.

"switching" to the unlimited for $29.99 means you'll get credit for the $14.99 that you've already paid for the initial 250 MB??

According to a recent MacRumors thread...

... Sine the iPad is contractless the data usage is more 250MB or - month, whatever comes first. So you just sign up for another 250 (or whatever) when it runs out and the 1 month counter resets.

No, it means you pay an additional $xx, depending on what plan you select. Of course Unlimited goes bye-bye at midnight tonight. From then on it's $25 for 2GB or $15 for 250MB. Each for 30 days. If you use your allotted data before 30 days you can either do nothing (you still have access to ATT WiFi for the remainder) or buy more data.

I didn't notice it in the ipad Cell Menu, but the default is AUTO-RENEW. this means your plan will renew the 250mb data balance (and charge you) automatically every 30 days.

if you use all 250mb in the first week, you will have no data (and no more charges) til the next 30 day cycle starts. (You can reup the plan early and pay another $15 manually.)

if you use, say 200mb in 30 days, on day 31 (new month) you get a charge of $15 and a new beginning balance of 250mb for 30 more days time. it does not roll over.
that's how I read the statements they've emailed me.

EDIT - I'm on the 250mb plan, it ends June25. I changed my plan yesterday for the Unlimited plan. The Unlimited plan will start June26 ...OR... when I run out of 250mb.

oh! AT&T, they think of everything.
and Wow, I was just calling ATT to make sure my Unlimited plan was set up right and they are closed. It's 830pm local time, Sunday. oh well.
