I just got a refurbished Nano 5G from Apple's website (shipped from China), and the clickwheel was messed up. I brought it to my local Apple Store and they confirmed it was defective and said they did not have any in store but would order another one to replace it.

Not a big deal either way, but I was just curious if they would have replaced it in store with a brand new one? And are they "ordering" another refurbished one, or just replacing it with a new 5G?

Replacements are almost always refurbs. It doesn't matter because either way it will be a functionally new unit. The only difference is the box.
