What Harddrive is the Fujitsu MHW2160BHPL?

Hi there,

I have the Fujitsu MHW2160BHPL in my Macbook Pro 17" 2.4Ghz.

Is this the 7200 rpm drive or the 5400 rpm drive?

There is actually no way to tell which hard drive is installed on your computer via System Profiler. I talked to an Apple Product Specialist and they informed me that they only display the base configuartion of the hard drive for all MacBook Pros which is in fact MHW2160BHPL, and when you look it up as MHW2160BH it will show a 5400 RPM drive on the Fujitsu website. Yet, this may not be the drive installed. You will have to call Apple Tech Support and give your HD Serial No. to the specialist and they will retrieve the rotational speed from a database. If you want to check the RPM yourself, I would suggest third party applications that calculate it. I have yet to find one, so if anybody knows of a software please post it.
 
I just called Apple Canada support at 1-800-263-3394 and spoke to a product specialist, his name is Joseph. He asked for my machine's serial and he checked my machine and confirmed that it is the 5400rpm drive.

I asked him about checking the serial of the HDD itself, but he says that it's not possible. His only information is on the specs of my machine and it is indeed the 5400 rpm drive.

I'm finding it hard to believe that if you have the Seagate Momentus drive that's 7200rpm, you will still only see the Fujitsu drive. Why would they hide this information or disguise it? And now the product specialist is telling me it's 5400, too.

Can someone who knows they have a 7200rpm drive check their system profiler to see what it says, please?

It appears that it WILL say Seagate Momentus when you have the 7200rpm drive. The discussion on that link confirms it and that 'About this Mac' is actually accurate. So I actually do have the 5400rpm drive.

Absolutely incorrect.

All of these new MacBook Pros have this configuration listed on them:
MHW2160BHPL

for the Hard Drive, and this does not mean that it is 5400 RPM. There really is no way to tell - not by calling Apple or otherwise whether you have the 7200 or 5400 RPM drive. You will get different answers depending on which tech picks up the phone at Apple, but if the retailer who sold you the system tells you it is 7200 RPM, you cannot dispute that just because your System Profiler states MHW2160BHPL. Means nothing.

ONE WAY TO CHECK is from the Apple Product Number, if it is ZOED00057 then you have the HI-RES display and the 7200 RPM drive.
 
I suppose you could always open up the machine and google the actual part number on the drive--every time I've opened a Powerbook/iBook/MBP/MB the drive part number and manufacturer is printed on the drive label. Surely that would be final?
