I've never heard of a Lightning "power block" though. They're all either USB-A or USB-C.

If you have a power block you still want to use, you can get the correct new cable. End of story.
Besides, like others have mentioned: I still need a lightning cable to charge my keyboard and trackpad. I will exchange these when they break and not a day earlier.
But in general it's great that Apple finally adopted USB-C in the iPhone after it was already in Macs and iPads.
