Hi guys...couple quick questions. I searched for the answer but could only find posts that were 6 months to 1 year old or older. Do the retail stores typically carry any i7 imacs? Or are those only BTO?

And also, does anyone expect a design change with the upcoming refresh (referring to the look of the iMac--I know some of the guts are gonna change).

As background, I've been a life-long PC guy, but with more and more issues requiring time to fix that I just don't have (with the latest being an issue between my printer and pc right before a major presentation for work), I pulled the trigger and bought a new mac-mini to test out to see if I liked it. Didn't seem to be as big of a learning curve as I expected and seems much more stable so I'm REALLY tempted to just say screw windows and pick up an iMac. My only reservation is lack of Outlook on it since a major use is for work and I'm not digging the built in mail program.

While I really don't need a super-fast processor since I rarely play any games (mostly just some photoshop and office applications with occasional video editing) I've gotten used to an overclocked i7 processor on my Win7 machine and find that the mac mini is too slow. Thought the i7 processor (even if the graphics card on it isn't super) would still offer comparable speed.

I'm 95% sure that they do cary at least a few i7's in stock.

No, a redesign won't happen probably won't happen until after this update.

In Jacksonville, a small market, the local Apple store carries the full line of iMacs. You may not find the exact one you want but I would check out the Apple store. Best Buy carries near nothing in comparison.

Thanks...I called mine when they opened up this morning and they do carry the i7 base configuration. I'm ready to buy, but I just wish I knew if a line refresh was coming within the next month. Not sure what would be offered in a refresh that would make me wait as I'm not a big gamer (so I don't think the current video card would be a big deal for me given some of the stuff that I've read about it) and I'm anxious to switch over fully from PC to Mac.

The new mac mini I bought isn't cutting it in terms of speed for me to migrate to that and right now I feel like I'm working between two systems (my current PC and the mini) which is very inefficient. Any thoughts? I guess I'm just looking for general advice--which is probably the same thing as in any of the hundreds of other threads here. :D

EDIT: Oh, one more questions... if I buy the iMac from an apple retail store, will they swap out the wireless keyboard for the one with the numeric keypad or am I out of luck there having to buy another?

Not sure about the keyboard swap in the Apple Store. You can do it when ordering from Apple.com though.

As far as your desire to run Outlook. It's my understanding the next version of Microsoft Office for Mac, set to release later this year, will include Outlook instead of Entourage, see:

Hopefully, it wont be a crippled version of Outlook. They may just be renaming Entourage, which does not support all exchange features.
