Hello. I'm new to the this world of iPhone hacking. I was wondering, what if I attempt a jailbreak on my 2.1 3g iPhone and it gets bricked? How do I reverse the process?

In addition, is netshare available with a jailbroken phone?

Thank you. I hope to get started soon.

This has been discussed-but I am pretty new too-so I will tell you what I have found.

Worse case scenario-phone won't reboot-just place it in DFU mode, using the same method that the pwnage tool does (I am assuming MAC use here, I am not sure how the Windows pwnage tools work) and then just restore a factory (or pwned) firmware file.

Frankly, the only time I ever ran into problems was with mobile applications. The "cracked" version for 2.0.X does not work with 2.1-the phone hung on the pwnapple logo-although it wasn't really bricked because iTunes would still Sync it. I restored the custom firmware, and got the correct mobile applications installed and all was good.

I really don't think you can "brick" your phone-it is a made up term to scare people away from hacking their stuff.

Unless you're a complete idiot noob and dont apply any brains to what you're doing..... you cant brick it!

The iPhone only bricks in one case.... damaging the baseband modem firmware and doing that is a tough tough job!

Thanks guys!! Much appreciated..

One more question, though. I have read and seen a bunch of tutorials. They tell me to download the new 2.1 firmware and iTunes 8. I already did that before wanting to jailbreak. is that fine?

Also, where do I get an older version of iTunes?

Check here for old iTunes: http://mac.oldapps.com/. I dunno about windows...

The new version of the pwnage tools will jailbreak the 2.1 firmware. I have installed iTunes 8.0 and had no problems with pwnage-they have a work around for iTunes attempt to not restore pwned firmware.

Hey guys I jailbreaked successfully. Though I do have some questions. I have been exploring installer and cydia. Everything I download off I installer seems to not like me. It doesn't appear anywhere on my phone. What's up with that? Also I have a differnt font on my phone. I'm not sure how that happened but I do want to change that back.

One more thing. Someone mentioned jailbreaking will get you many of the app store apps. I don't really see much of a selection. Am I missing something?

Trust me, that is THE site you want to be on for anything regarding jailbreaking.

1. skip Installer. stick with Cydia. Installer is pretty much a wasteland of themes IMO.

2. There is no way to install a system font for the entire phone via Cydia or Installer. Either your eyes are playing tricks on you, or you downloaded a specific font on your computer, SSH'd into the phone, and replaced the Helvetica.TTF...kinda doubt that.

3. There are no store apps on Cydia/Installer, that I know of. If you are looking for cracked (pirated) store apps, you are at the wrong forum.

there is a way to get store apps from installer i don´t remember the source but there is a thread in this forum that gives it to you but i think that if you want to get store apps for free you will have to use the mobile instalation patch i think is better:D
