What if Jony Ives was CEO?

And absolutely nothing to date or in the recent future would be different - these releases were already well into their pipeline. The launches of said products would potentially go less smoothly due to Ive's complete lack of logistics and business ops background.
Going forward, he would have to choose - design or run a company. Not both. And if he tried doing both, it wouldn't end well - both for the designs or the business side of Apple.

Tim Cook is a good CEO. Ives is a good designer. Not even close to the same skill sets.
I don't think you really meant "CEO", though. I think you meant "ultimate product design decision maker". If so, then I agree.
Apple's strength (and sometimes weakness) was that a non-techie user like Steve Jobs had final say on a product. Not committees. Not engineers. Not public surveys. However, he was smart enough to surround himself with people who argue with him, and if enough did, he would change his mind.
Why?
Easy, the guy is a bean counter. He'll put profit before anything else. Steve Jobs didn't do that per say ( he did, but steve was't a bean counter ), he was more into customer satisfaction.
Tim Cook likes to count beans, look how he hired John Browett.
John Browett has ruined every single company he's touched.
Tim Cook is so out of touch, and in love with margins that he sees that John Browett lowered labor costs at retail stores, and thinks " hey! More money! "
He doesn't realized that John Browett ruins the customer experience. Customer service is what sets Apple apart, when its gone and run by bean counters, I can see bad things for Apple.
I disagree. Tim is an operations guy. He makes sure that beans are there to count, but does not necessarily count them.
Whether you like Tim and/or John Browett, Apple is doing something right. Followers and fans are legion, and profits and growth right there with them.
Doing "something right" is generic statement. That something could be following the plan Steve left them. It doesn't mean that once that plan runs out, that Apple will continue to head in the right direction, or that Tim can lead them.
When Apple was struggling in the mid 90s, they still had the backing of their fans, and Im sure they were doing "something right", but the plan was wrong.
So Cook is a bean counter per se, but Jobs was a bean counter, not per se
So Cook is a BAD bean counter, and Jobs was a GOOD bean counter.
Apple is in business to make money (beans). I suggest we wait until service goes to crap and then piss, moan, and blame Cook (or whoever), rather than aticipating something that has not yet happened, and piss, moan and blame Cook in advance.
Tim Cook is doing everything Jobs wanted him to do. If you have a problem with Tim Cook then you have a problem with Steve Jobs.

It would be nice if Jony took over the Keynote Addresses. He is much more engaging. Tim puts me to sleep! Keep him away from Yerba. Just talking about Tim Cook makes me sleepy.
