What if Apple starts putting their programs like iWork, iLife, and all of the other semi-small file sized software onto flash drives? That way people who have MBA's could load their software on without using a 99$ superdrive or whatever else. I think that would be cool if companys began to do that with small sized programs, especially now that flash drives are becoming much cheaper. What do you guys think?

It might be cool but a blank CD is almost free compared to even a small sized flash drive. That and having to buy a $99 external drive gives them money. Most people I would imagine are getting Airs as satellite computers and already have an external drive even if it's in another computer. The CD/DVD drive in my powerbook rarely if ever got used. I'm glad they dropped it.
True. But, think about it. They don't have have to pay as much for marketing because the packaging would be much smaller (reducing a lot of the major costs). Also, a thumb drive seems a lot more stable because CD's can scratch quite easily, whereas a flash drive is a lot more difficult to scratch or damage. What I was really trying to saw is, could the Flash drive become the new CD/DVD eventually? And phase the CD/DVD to an almost floppy drive "state"?
I agree with DeSnousa. The future is all about digital downloads. The iTunes Store will facilitate digital software sales in the foreseeable future.

lol. that's how I kind of thought of the idea. It seems tedious to have to download it off iTunes and then restart and begin again. And they made the MBA a wireless master piece. It just made sense to me that they would try out thumb (flash) drives for it for the Operating System upgrades.
