The improved Mac mini rumoured to be releases shortly 'has many Pro features'. It will definitely be modular. This exactly fits the description of the new Mac Pro discussed in the press meeting in 2017.

Maybe this is all we are getting as an update on both product lines?

This is exactly what I thought.....
A basic box (mac mini), add modules to ‘pro’ it up.

We’ll just have to wait and see....;)

here we go again...

So many threads on this already.

Personally I would hope there was a low budget Mini and then a Pro model that's stackable.
<oh no, I'm falling into a trap here>

The only way they would even link the two lines is if the Mini is priced to replace the 'current' 2013 Mac Pro line. And tacitly the 2019 Mac Pro (which could still be a year away) would have to be priced well north of that even if Apple announce it or not.

As it is, benchmarking variations of i7 or lower grade Xeon CPUs and adding an AMD Pro 580X might actually give a new 'Mac' (no so Mini any more) as much grunt as a base model 2013 Mac Pro but why would they do that so close to the launch of the 2019 Mac Pro?

It's far more likely to be a more modest setup in my opinion and Apple's idea of modularity is going to be restricted to Thunderbolt 3 and assorted cabling.

Agree with @Sackofnickels - For many, many years MP meant upgradeable and dual CPU sockets and big GPU capabilties. I think whatever it is will be more capable, and more pricey, than an iMac Pro. Those of us with *MPs think we're doing good if we can edit 4K. But what about 8K. More disk/GPU/memory/CPU. Just more. For example, 2x 14-core Xeons, with 512GB memory and multiple upgradeable GPUs. 48 or 64 TB HDD, with 8TB SSD. An if-you-have-to-ask-it's-not-for-you type of machine.
(Just brainstorming)

It will definitely be modular.
Says who exactly? Source?

One more day and we'll probably know what the new mini is......but

Until then, I bet the new Macbook is the new Mac Pro or wait the new iPad Pro is probably the new Mac Pro? Naw, they will never make a new iPad cause they only care about iPhones right? I bet they cancel Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro too. No, Wait, they're turning them into iMovie or Garageband right? But only for the iPhone I guess?

At least the naysayers got Lightroom right. Keep going guys you'll get one right again in say 10-15 years.
