What if you can't boot from external SSD?

What is the point of an external SSD via TB if for some reason in the future it is not possible to boot from it?

It just becomes a low capacity (compared to HDD's) but very fast storage drive for music, movies etc.. which wont make much sense... I'd rather have a 2-3TB HDD as an external drive storing my music, videos, photo's etc, but this will in turn make TB under utilized as a HDD doesn't need a 10GB bandwidth..

Just trying to understand the point of TB a bit more... bootable SSD is possibly the main thing everyone wants...

You're exactly right, the only point would be if you needed really fast access to media. Most people would opt for a larger, slower drive.

That being said, TB will still be great for a SATA-III RAID enclosure holding standard hard drives. And of course, TB supports daisy chaining of displays and other devices. Its applications certainly aren't limited to SSDs.
 
TB is bootable, as is Firewire and USB, at least on Mac OS X.
Btw, TB isn't just meant for HDDs (which could be raided, thus faster speeds), but also for other devices like displays and what else will come to the market. It is not limited as USB or Firewire is, and one day could be the one interface to connect all peripheral devices.

And the ability to daisy chain up to six devices, cuts down on the numbers of actual ports.

There is more to TB than just fast access. Didn't you find ONE article explaining some of it?

What? A question? Since Apple introduced TB on their Macs, articles and discussions have been appearing left and right about the advantages of TB. And since Intel released the first info about LightPeak information has been available about this technology.
I just asked, if the OP did some research, which can also be understood as hint to do it of course. But there are always four ears listening I suppose.

As long as os x bootable from FW or usb external drive, so does thunderbolt

Thunderbolt is kinda Apple's pride. Yeah intel is the main engineer, but apple is the one who applied it first for consumer products

So they wont ditch bootable ssd via thunderbolt. That would be a blunder. And somehow i wont use or purchase external SSD unless its thunderbolt

Anything less??? FAILL :p
