what if you're on 3.1.x and you use the five column/five rows?

then everytime you sync your phone, wouldn't it screw up the order of your apps?

It hasn't been a problem for me so far, but I never really thought about that. I'll try to mess it up tonight after work and see

1. this would be more appropriate in the iPhone Hack subforum

2. it does mess up the 5 column/row/dock. what happens is that regular and jb apps will show up and can be moved around in iTunes 9, however when it syncs it moves the extra app(s) (usually the last one of the row/dock/column) to the last page

If you have your apps organized into 5 rows or columns, the sync won't care. The position of apps is only an issue if you try to use the iTunes application organizer as it won't show more than 4 rows. The extra apps will just be shown in any open spaces on open pages.

There is a Mac app called Movement which does the same thing, but it will show 5 icon dock and I believe 5 column.

that's not true. I'm using Fiverows GUI and everytime I sync, any apps in the fifth row of any page will be shifted to the next page and so on.

When I had anything different than the standard 4X4 layout the check box that syncs apps always got unchecked. I never tried to sync because the itunes organizer would only show the standards iphone apps and I assumed that all my apps would get removed.

When I had 5 Icon dock, everytime I sycned my iPhone, it would change back to only 4 icons..

Did you read the rest of my post. It only affects the way the icons display on the application arranger.

The sync (which I consider to synchronize photos, music, movies, contacts, calendar and applications) is really unaffected.

I guess it depends on what your definition of sync is.

How are you confused? Merely syncing does nothing the the five column stuff.

Okay, I tried five columns, and yes, merely syncing doesn't affect five columns. However, five-icon dock does get messed up -- the fifth icon is moved out of the dock and into the next open space on the home pages. Haven't tried five rows yet.

Five rows gets completely screwed. Apps moved all around to the point that this is utterly useless. Which sucks because I love using five rows, but simply cannot with the new app placement crap in iTunes now.

This will show an accurate representation of your phone but it is only for a Mac I think.

Just tried Movement. Doesn't want to work. Snow Leopard 10.6.1 and iPhone software 3.1.2.

Looks like I might try downgrading iTunes. If that doesn't work, I guess I don't jailbreak anymore and just deal with having a great phone with fugly, boring UI. :(

I'm using it on SL 10.6.1, (iTunes 9.0.1 - doesn't matter) and the version is 1.4 for Movement.

Looks like another good reason to get a Mac. The longer I own iPhones, the closer I am getting to finally making the switch. Then here comes Windows 7, which is getting really solid reviews. What to do, what to do??...

As soon as my wife got her iphone (she got hers first, I got mine about 2 months later) I got on Craigslist and got a nice iBook G4 which I have since resold on Craigslist and replaced it with a nice MacBook from Craigslist.

That's all I use the Mac laptop for, just to mod and sync with the iPhones. It is the only way to go if you have an iPhone. The integration between the Mac and the iPhone is much more effective and all encompassing compared to the PC.

Do it. You will not be sorry.

So I have 3 desktop PC's, 2 PC laptops and 1 Mac laptop running in the house.

Probably why my electric bill is so high (that and the 2 HD TV's which just suck those volts)

Get a Mac and dualboot it with OSX and Win 7. You're welcome.

Vista got just as good reviews before it came out. :)

Mossberg called Vista, "Microsofts [greatest] operating system to date." So when he says the same of Win7... I don't get too excited.

On another note... I got Vista pre release as part of the MSDNA and I have had Win7 for around a month now as part of the same network. I was not impressed with Vista but I am very happy with Win7.

I rarely use it because I'm too busy using my Mac or Ubuntu (Also on the Win7 machine)
