What im hoping for on the new Imac as a first time mac user

Have.. like a lot of u been waiting for getting a new Imac and trying the mac world for the first time..

This is what i would love on a Imac..

Better graphic card.. 9800gt would be great..

HDMI out with sound so u dont have to pull two cabels

8gb ram or more option..

eSATA output for external drives..

other then that im pretty happy about the current model..
 
Hey, welcome to Mac ownership. Get used to being disappointed by Apple and me telling you that you will be disappointed LONG before I am proven right by Apple's release!

No 9800 GT: 9400M and something else.

No HDMI: Mini DisplayPort.

8GB won't work, but six will, unofficially.

And no eSATA, as cool as that would be.

I dont think they well put in a 9400 in the iMacs, the 9400 would be a downgrade compared to the 2600 pro. I'm not sure about the 2400XT, but im guessing that would also be a downgrade if it became a 9400. I predict 9600s across the board with a BTO 9800. I could be wrong, we'll see :)

The 9400M has already shown up in future kexts. It'll be there. That's why I said 9400 and something else. Maybe the 9600M, like the MacBook Pros.

i think the 9600m will be there.. no dought.. but is still hoping for the 9800 to be a option like the 8800 was..

what about the firewire 800.. do u think it will stay.. was gonna get a external hdd case, but dont know if i should go for a fw800 model..
 
I'm basically in the same seat as the thread starter: Long time PC user waiting for the opportune moment to take the plunge. 8gb I can do without and I won't throw a fit if the (supposed) new models comes without a core i7. A better gfx would be nice though and hopefully the nvidia chipset is pretty much a given thing by now? Other than that I just want a stylish, dependable and quiet machine that will jump through hoops when I say so. I've read that buying rev A macs is not a good idea but hopefully the new iMac (if there is one) won't be that much of an upgrade for this rule to apply.

(Sorry for the rambling, but I needed to boss.)

I myself will be returning to Macs with the next imac release. I Was prepared to get a current gen 20" model but due to various issues my budget has been set back till late feb/early march anyway.

I am really looking forward to seing the new specs of the imacs because i see it as a free upgrade to what i would have gotten anyway.

I am hoping for a slight improvement of grpahics myself, but the only game i really play is guild wars and as my current windows pc is running an x1650 pro i doubt i will be dissapointed whatever there is.
 
Any ideas on what the top end iMac 24" graphics card will be?

Would like to hear what Stev....... er Tallest Skil envisions :eek:
 
Currently theories go, the 9400M may be used as the GPU for lowest end iMac, but it won't be used as the GPU for the rest of the range - however it will still be present on the logic board. Don't forget, the Nvidia chipset incorporates the 9400M on the same die as other vital functions required to operate the Mac, the 9400M section just probably won't be used for graphical functions for the medium to high end iMacs, they'll be using a discreet GPU for the graphics in the same way a Macbook Pro does.

I doubt the discreet GPU and the 9400M can share the workload in terms of graphics, but perhaps the 9400M can be used for OpenCL functions instead of lying dormant along with the 9x00 main GPU.
