2009? That would make it a third generation.
Yes, thanks you; this surprised me, but you are absolutely right.
Actually, I had not planned to buy one, - as I had distrusted the hype and sales pitch surrounding it, believing that it was a triumph of hype over substance - but an iPod classic that I had bought (a 120GB) had died while I was working abroad, still under warranty.
Subsequently, while at home on leave, I brought it into an authorised Apple store (with the sales receipt), and, after a moment to confirm the details, I was asked whether I wanted a the device repaired, replaced, or whether I would prefer a refund.
Anyway, I requested a replacement, to be hold that none were in the store, and I would have to wait a week or so. The problem was that I was returning to work in the Caucasus the following day, and did not expect to be back before the new year. So, I wondered about the iPod Touch, the 64GB version. They had it, but explained that there was a price difference between that and my deceased iPod classic. I explained that I was happy to pay the difference. So, I bought it, and put some music into it.
I have to say that - the somewhat limited memory size apart (as I have a large music library) - it is an excellent iPod; the sound is superb (better than the iPod classics) and the SSD is obviously, a lot more stable than the old HDD of the iPod classic. Actually, I'm one of those who had longed for Apple to put a decent sized memory into the iPod Touch, and, now that they have done so, I may well buy one.
