What is a good drum machine app for...

I need a background drummer to practice with. I do not want to program/make the beats myself. I want to be able to select them...ex) rock 1, blues 2, funk 1,etc...

Also, I am not looking for techno/club/house/dance beats. I am looking for blues, rock, funk, jazz

A full backing band (programmable chord progression) is a plus, but not necessary. I want good beats as opposed to just a click metronome.

i only know of drum synths where you produce the beat "live"

Get DigiDrummer. It's not exactly a pure rock/blues/funk drum kit app (it has various kits including house/electronica ones and even beatboxing) but you should be happy about what it offers. If I remember correctly it's got 2 jazz kits, drums from the 80's, 70's, metal, indie etc etc. There's a demo you can try, although it only features the "normal" drum kit.

Anyway, what's important is that the interface is clean and thought-out, drum pads are VERY responsive, and the sampling is top notch. I actually hooked up my iPhone to my home stereo the other day and played on this program, and it sounded very good. It sounds geeky, but I can actually picture myself (and others) using this for band practice when real drums are unavailabe or unconvenient.

Go ahead and try, it might be just what you were looking for.

Oh and by the way, no, it hasn't got other instruments. I actually think the very same developer has made a deluxe "full band" edition with other playing sections, but I haven't tried it -- look it up. However, in DigiDrummer there's a recorder so you can make that perfect rythm and then push play and leave the iPhone while it's playing. Pretty cool if you're alone -- I have tried it while playing my el-guitar, it's cool to have drum backing that you actually created yourself to suit the song.
