An SSD is an alternative/the future to a hard drive. It is flash based with no spinning parts. It is way faster than a traditional hard drive, but way too expensive at the moment. SSD stands for Solid State Drive.

Or to simplify it giant SD card instead of the old fashion harddrive that's standard in computers right now.
