cleaned up and sold as new.
I know people who've bought 'new & sealed' Macs from the brick and mortar store only to get them home and find someone else's info. on there.
not good, but I'm sure Apple isn't alone.
It seems as though that would violate some law does anyone know?
Do you have evidence of that? Of course it would but I think Apple has enough lawyers to make you **** bricks. Or would just pay you to be quiet
If it was occurring on a major level there would be more people posting about it do you have any evidence other than anecdotal?
There probably isn't as many as you think. The forums make it feel like hundreds of thousands of them are getting returned, when most likely its a very small %.
I second hippo's post. Very minority of refurbs have any problems and it's users fault as well if he didn't clean it.
Of course the situation would be different if all had issues and then Apple's QA would be checked. My post was just a bad half-joke![]()
I just want to help out Apple by taking one of their yellow tinge imacs off their hands for a vastly reduced price.

believe or not they are probably put in a trash compactor. All these companies work the same. it is cheaper just to make a newer one than to pay someone to repair them.
I once worked at a yamaha guitar warehouse. This practice was the norm. Unless the guitar was in mint condition, they were thrown in a secure trash compactor. We would get guitars that were perfect except for one missing string, or it had the slightest hair scratch. They also trashed beautiful synthesizers, even if the only thing wrong was it was missing just one key. It cost them pennies to make these things and it is cheaper to make a new one than to pay labor to repair it.

refurbs are the ones that come back "mint". they are just quickly cleaned and all dust and dirt are blown out with an air gun. If something is slightly wrong with it, no matter how small it gets trashed.
there are more returns than what they actually sell as a refurb. if they sold every return as a refurb, they would have tons of people returning those or making claims on warranties.
Since these macs are made overseas with dirt cheap labor. it is always cheaper and easier to make a new one than to pay a high priced US worker to fix it.
for a company like APPLE .. do you guys really think they would do this ?
trying selling defected returns as refurbs hoping the next guys wont notice the defect ?
there are procedures and Quality assurance test before they are put out to be sold as REFRUBS
I agree. It would also violate their own policy. Nevertheless people are getting bad refurbs (and new ones) but it's just hard to believe Apple wouldn't be doing anything to try and fix this issue. This costs THEM money.

we have a poll thread here and i think only 10 % people are returning refurbs , which is lot less then , people returning new imacs ..so there much be some thing right about these refurbs
