Ordered 6core/D500/1TB/16gb and apple care on 19th so apple hits my acct for the AppleCare then charge falls off then on dec 31 they hit my acct AGAIN for AppleCare and I see now that chrg has fallen off. WHAT DA H*@@ is apple doing?
Never seen these tactics happen before. Anyone else having this happen to them also.

Apple puts a hold on the funds, and then charges when the product ships, sometimes it may double up on the hold but it usually comes off.

I am sooooo tempted to just say hell with nMP and use that $$$$ and go to Tahiti for vacation. Sick of waiting for apple. I'll give it another 7-14 days and I'm out so then somebody will move up a slot.

Apple's BS

Having had a hex can for half a day I seriously advise you don't go to Tahiti fella. Which reminds me I must check my euro millions lottery ticket for tonight!

Is this a debit card thing?

I've never seen anything like it from any business on any of my credit cards, but I hear complaints about it all the time so I know it happens.

Why are you adding Apple Care now? Don't you get 1 year warranty on the nMP? Add Apple Care at the end of the first year, extends your warranty. Or has something changed since I last bought?

Why wait? It's the same 3 years whether you add AC now, or on day 364. If you buy AC at the same time it's already registered and ready to go, don't have to mess with it.

If you genuinely would like to know what they're doing, have you considered picking up the phone?

It doesn't matter when you add the AppleCare - it will expire at the same time. What adding AppleCare early does is gives you phone support after 90 days.

This is normal banking practice. Essentially what Apple is doing is running your Debit Card to make sure the funds are available. When this happens your bank naturally assumes the company will be withdrawing those funds so they place them on hold, with most banks a hold will falloff after 5 days if the funds haven't been claimed. This also guarantees the funds can be claimed once Apple ships your device, so make sure you don't forget or they'll have no problem taking your bank account into the negative.

Why they're double charging for AppleCare is beyond me. When the final charges come through make sure you don't get charged twice.

Seems to me that back in the day you could opt for 1, 2 or 3 years @ different prices, so why not opt for 2 @ the end of the first year and save a few bucks. First year is overlapping coverage anyway. Then again, I may be mixing flashbacks and have it all wrong. :)

Apple did the same thing when I ordered my 5s.
That was a nightmare. I had no functioning phone because I accidently broke my previous iphone. Right when the 5S came out too!

Applecare goes on sale a few times a year. I waited until a sale at B&H and got a retail box Mac Pro Applecare for $140. Some people here have managed to get even lower prices.

Uhhhh yea. That's the 1st step of course. And I got the answer I thought I'd get.

----------

Also. They just charged me again for AppleCare. Hopefully this is the 3rd and final time cause my nMP charge is coming due to its now being shipped. FINALLY.... fingers x'ed

So I called again "DUSTMAN" and I got same answer of this is what they do and was offered free Bose speakers for the frustration.

That's very strange about the credit cards. The first indication I got that mine was shipping was a "Thanks for buying AppleCare" message and then the whole thing, MP and AppleCare was charged on my credit card. Both at the same time. Maybe it depends on the credit card. I used American Express.

I'd chalk it up to flashbacks. AppleCare expires 3 years from the purchase of the DEVICE. You have up to one year from the purchase of the device to tack on AppleCare. In other words, AppleCare is really a 2 year coverage effective after the first year (except for the phone support).
