I own a 2009 cmp 4.1-5.1 with 48G memory. I received a system message today to turn off applications as the mac was running out of memory even though no application was running. I checked the Activity monitor and noticed multiple processes, all named 'BDChromecommunication' were hogging up all the memory. I restarted the macpro and it was gone. I tried google search but couldn't find much information. This happened once last month also. I'll appreciate if someone can explain this phenomenon. Thanks

Are you using the Chrome browser? If not then it may belong to the company "Chrome Communications", in Mumbai (advertising, consulting and marketing), or to another one in Great Britain, "Chrome Communications Limited" (public relations and communications company).

Have you visited either of their sites or clicked on one of their links?

Thanks for the reply. I do use Chrome browser (for long time). I never visited Chrome communication Ltd website and I am usually careful about not clicking on unknown links. Do you think it could be some malware?

I still see the process 'BDChromeCommunication' in the Activity monitor, of course it is not hogging memory up like before

Sounds likely then is a Chrome browser process. The best thing to do is visit the Chrome support site and ask about it there. I could not find anything just doing a quick browse.

I am sure I am not the only one using Chrome and couldn't find anyone with similar complaint on google search and still wondering why should it happen after years of using. I hope it is not some malware. Thanks for the help.

Look up closer to the top of the list in that Activity Monitor window. You will see the process "BDLDaemon", which is a Bitdefender process. I suspect that the "BDChromeCommunications" process is ALSO part of BitDefender.
For me, that's just another example of AV software that may be taking resources from your system unnecessarily, maybe just a result of real-time scanning.
You might want to consider if you really need Bitdefender.

You are right . I double clicked on BDChromeCommunication process in Activity monitor and info window does indeed show it is linked with Bitdefender.

I have been using this software for many years and never had this issue before. Still wondering why suddenly it was hogging up 48G memory? I'll try to contact there technical support (of course you know how helpful these support people are).
