what is black friday?

iv heard a lot of users use the term black friday....can anyone enlighten me with what it means?

Oy, this gets bigger every year. Last year my family left our house for a Midnight extravaganza at our local outlet mall. People were parked along the median of the highway, then running across it to get to the stores cos the parking lot was full...at midnight.....I'd rather be nowhere else than home on Black Friday.

It's maybe something they should think about over here (UK.)
Normally the Christmas season gets off to a slow start late Nov/early December, the press are full of stories about how bad it is, then one retailer blinks and starts cutting prices and the rest follow suit.

If we had an official start to the Christmas season (they've been talking about making St Andrews day 30th Nov as a national holiday here in Scotland) it might make for a more stable Christmas period.

Personally, I don't start my shopping until Christmas Eve. At 4pm!

Black Friday is when unbridled consumerism takes hold of people turning them into zombies that come out in droves to keep the economy afloat. The hollow emptiness inside is replaced with "retail therapy" while stampeding mob behavior entwines with "every man for himself". Unfortunately this year the US dollar is at record lows so people may only be able to buy 3 tvs instead of 4 for themselves.

If you've ever been to a casino in Vegas, it's the same vibe. Simmering desperation sprinkled over the primal hunt. A large percentage of the trash that ends up in space or our oceans or to forever decompose in landfills is bought this very day.

With that said, there are many great deals to be had.
