I recently got home from a 2 week holiday where I was taking a lot of photos using my DSLR. During the trip I was using the camera connection kit (SD adapter) to transfer my photos from my SD card to my iPad to free up space on the card for new photos. I didn't have access to wifi during my trip so when I arrived home I expected those photos would be uploaded to my iCloud Photo Library and synced between my devices as usual.
That was 4 days ago and my photos are still uploading. I expected it to take a while because my broadband upload speed isn't the best, but the photos app itself seems to be at least part of the problem. The first night I got home I connected my iPad to wifi and noticed my photos had begun to upload - I could see "X megabytes of Y gigabytes uploaded" at the bottom of the photos app. The next morning the app was showing "XXX photos uploading" but not showing any progress like the night before. I left it for a few hours but that hadn't changed, so I restarted my iPad. After turning the iPad back on the photos app showed its progress again, but then a few hours later was back to showing no progress and the upload appeared stuck again.
So for 4 days I've had to keep restarting my iPad every few hours otherwise my photo uploads are getting stuck. Things seem to be ok on my iPhone as I can see the photos I took with my DSLR are slowly trickling in, but the photos I took with my iPhone are also not showing on my iPad. So there seems to be a problem with my iPad syncing my photo library?
Is this a known issue or has anybody else experienced this? Is there anything I can do?
My iPad is a 4th gen running iOS 9.2.
