I just switched over from using a PC to a Mac. What is the .Mac service. I went to Mac website and I read all the great feature. To join .Mac is it a one time fee and if I do join .Mac is it a program that I download and install on my mac.

Gah! Plymouth
you get a .mac member name and 1GB space for iDisk and email, as well as other things.

You get an activation card i believe or at least that is how mine went when i bought it 3 years ago, also came with a disc too that had backup and virex on it.

Duff-Man says.....just to clarify - Virex is no longer included I believe, and it is not a one time fee - you must renew every year. Have a search through the forums - there have been tons of threads as to whether .mac is "worth it" already and if you read those you'll see all the varying opinions.....oh yeah!

After the initial fee, there are annual recurring fees for renewing it. Much like other subjects, there have been threads on your question and a number of members feel it is overpriced and did not bother renewing.
