what is normal CPU temp MacPro '08?

Hi Learned Ones

I just installed iStat thinking it might help with a 2008 MacPro which has started not waking from sleep and having kernel panics and assorted nasty things.

The CPU temps are around 160 degrees and the heatsinks are 80. Does this mean my heatsinks have become disconnected over time?

Any advice appreciated,

No. The '08s run hot. Very hot. I had similar questions when I had iStat on my '08. My 1,1 has the heatsinks around 100 degrees or so under load, and closer to 90 at idle.

Someone once told me, "Don't stare at iStat for too long or you'll always find something that might be a problem."

I've been a lot more relaxed ever since.

TL;DR - you're fine, dude. Don't worry until you start having problems.

Thanks for the quick and helpful reply. iStat is a neurotics dream... but I am having problems which I thought might be related to the temp difference between the CPUs @ 160 and the heatsinks @ 87. Should they be closer in value showing that the heatsinks are removing the CPUs heat?

No, that's about normal. On my X99 tower, under OS X, my processor is at 40 degrees C and the heatsink is at 73 degrees C, which is about 163 to 100 respectively. If anything, your heatsinks are running nice and cool, and so are your processors.
