What is really part of iCloud Backup?

Hi,

Apples iCloud Support-Page lists everything that is not part of iCloud-Backup – but just to be sure: I'm using a small Mail-Provider which also saves my contacts and calendars (via IMAP), and because of privacy reasons I don't want iCloud Backup to save the data from that Mail-Provider (E-Mails, Calendar, Contacts). Apple says on the Support-Site that no data from other Cloud-Services (like Gmail ans Exchange) will be saved via iCloud Backup. Does my Mail-Provider also count as one of the Cloud-Services which aren't part of iCloud Backup?

Apps (Apple and 3ed party) that are allowed to backup data to iCloud are selectable under iCloud. If using Mail, Contacts and/or Calendar you must cut them off.

Thanks! Always thought these options only apply to Apples own Cloud-Services.

Another way to check on this is to log in to www.icloud.com and check in "settings" - it will show how much storage is used globally by all your devices

If your email is on a "separate domain and email server" it won't be stored on iCloud.

I use text messages a lot and had to upgrade to "Paid Storage" or start deleting messages history - $1 a month was not hard to justify - now I have plenty of storage for what I need

- I don't keep pictures on iCloud - that could be substantial storage
