I mean I like split screen which is a shame because I have an iPad Air (not 2)...
But what is this sliding thing for? How could I benefit from this even remotely similarall to the way I could from split screen if I actually could?

Sporting event/TV show in main window, twitter feed on the side.

Planning for wedding/renovation and taking down names of businesses from browser on one side, with notes on the side

Browsing web in main window, chat window on the side

That's a couple of things I could've used it for recently. I assume this should all be possible if the side window functions mostly like a tall iPhone screen

@g35 Yeah but wouldn't it be good to have them side by side all the time instead of always having to slide one in and out

@mattopotamus you'd have to slide the Internet in and out to browse or use the smaller window which is PIP

not sure, but I think it would 50/50 by default and you can adjust it from there....similar to the note line by samsung.

Couldn't you have it side by side all the time? I think if you tap the divider, it becomes permanent.

I am in the same boat my friend. I also have an iPad Air. What exactly is the point of slide over if you can only interact with one app?

I can see using slide over. I mean if you are watching a movie or browsing the web and someone messages you you can respond quickly but just sliding over messages and sending a message right back quickly without having a to change apps or have a dedicated split window.

I believe it's more of a half-way solution for iPads that are unable to do the full split screen due to hardware restrictions (most likely due to the RAM) so that users don't have to constantly fly in and out of apps, which is annoying as hell.

What is the advantage of this rather than using the pull down quick reply from the notification?

Well, pull-down notifications only allows limited actions or to reply to a message. The slide over allows you to do other actions as well since it's basically a much faster way of opening that application again.

I'm excited for this,
Very useful for Twitter and generally any Social Networking, Calendar, Reminders, Task/Todo List, and Note apps
When I remember something I wouldn't have to leave my current app/game.

Craig did mention it would utilise the iPhone UI version of Universal apps on the Slide Over.

I wonder if it would work with most iPhone apps, like Fantastical and Tweetbot when installed on the iPad. That would be awesome, more use for all that iPhone only apps on my iPad.

I think I read on a thread in the iPad forum it's list of recently used apps, from the multitasking view, forgot which thread

It's pretty cool. I just found it on my iPad Mini 2. It gives you a scrolling bar like the app switcher with the native apps you can split screen with. Works pretty well, though there is some lag.

Not all apps support it, for one. Telegram won't. It can also be an email app, or tweetbot, or any other app you want to quickly browse without minimising the current app.

I see it as being faster and seamless than the current multitasking method.

And am I correct that you cannot at all interact with both windows at the same time?

Here
Having a text conversation while surfing the web. The quick reply was nice, but it can be disruptive over and over with how it blurs the background.
