What is "Slide-Over" useful for?

I mean I like split screen which is a shame because I have an iPad Air (not 2)...
But what is this sliding thing for? How could I benefit from this even remotely similarall to the way I could from split screen if I actually could?

Browsing web in main window, chat window on the side

That's a couple of things I could've used it for recently. I assume this should all be possible if the side window functions mostly like a tall iPhone screen

isn't PIP actual PIP. A window inside a window? slide is multi-tasking, side by side (you just pick how much 50/50 75/25, etc)

not sure, but I think it would 50/50 by default and you can adjust it from there....similar to the note line by samsung.

That's the mode reserved for iPad Air 2 I think. Will know more in 24 hours when I hopefully get to test it ^^

It is flawed because the two windows never interact with each other. No dragging over pictures for example.

I can see using slide over. I mean if you are watching a movie or browsing the web and someone messages you you can respond quickly but just sliding over messages and sending a message right back quickly without having a to change apps or have a dedicated split window.

I believe it's more of a half-way solution for iPads that are unable to do the full split screen due to hardware restrictions (most likely due to the RAM) so that users don't have to constantly fly in and out of apps, which is annoying as hell.

Well, pull-down notifications only allows limited actions or to reply to a message. The slide over allows you to do other actions as well since it's basically a much faster way of opening that application again.

Very useful for Twitter and generally any Social Networking, Calendar, Reminders, Task/Todo List, and Note apps
When I remember something I wouldn't have to leave my current app/game.

Craig did mention it would utilise the iPhone UI version of Universal apps on the Slide Over.

I wonder if it would work with most iPhone apps, like Fantastical and Tweetbot when installed on the iPad. That would be awesome, more use for all that iPhone only apps on my iPad.

It's pretty cool. I just found it on my iPad Mini 2. It gives you a scrolling bar like the app switcher with the native apps you can split screen with. Works pretty well, though there is some lag.

Not all apps support it, for one. Telegram won't. It can also be an email app, or tweetbot, or any other app you want to quickly browse without minimising the current app.

I see it as being faster and seamless than the current multitasking method.

Having a text conversation while surfing the web. The quick reply was nice, but it can be disruptive over and over with how it blurs the background.
