Hi... I'm trying to figure out whether 16GB will be enough or should I opt for 64. So can you tell me whats the average app size is?

thanks!~

I asked this question in the Apple store when I picked mine up. I had a 16 gig and a 64 gig reserved. They told me that Pages was about 35 meg and Numbers was about the same. Based on this I went with the 16 gig model because my main expected usage was for apps and for use as a note taking machine when I went to meetings. Only later did I find out how difficult it is to deal with data files on the iPad and I have since purchased several apps to act as workarounds including goodreader and airsharing hd.

I backed up my apps from my iPod Touch to my Mac and they took several hundred meg. After backing up everything from my iPad, the entire folder still only took up 700 meg. My apps take a lot of space because I have several large ebook apps and several bible translations on my iPod Touch and on my iPad.

I don't have many games and games are the biggest space hogs. I don't have any music (I use Pandora) or podcasts (yet) or movies (I use Netflix). If you plan to watch movies, you might want to consider the 32 gig model. If you plan to mainly use apps and read books, the 16 gig should be more than enough. I use both iBooks and Kindle but I presently have more Kindle books than iBooks.

Thanks for the reply's. I would like to hear from more people how much room have they taken up so far with apps.

I mean I will probably have around 2 - 4 gigs of music and videos and the rest will be for apps but the thing is I'm new to the ipad and other apple products and I really envy at all those apps for the iphone compared to my winmobile phone. Seeing there's an app for just about everything and quality is pretty amazing, I'll probably want ton of them and am just hoping 16gb wont be a party pooper.

The Elements app is 1.74 GB. While you may not be interested in it, it is interesting to know that an app was available on launch day at that size. Could be a sign of things to come.

I personally went with the 32 over the 16 just for this reason.

Wow. I almost bought that a couple of times. I'm glad I didn't. There are enough free Periodic tables out there that I decided to skip it. Now that I know it wants so much space, I'll hold off indefinitely.
