I agree, right now a slingbox setup is less than $200. The slingbox solo is $165 no tax and free shipping at Amazon, and the app is $30.
Hulu plus really sucks, and mobi.tv is very limited. With slingbox it's a video passthrough so you can control your at home came box.
On the downside, you can't sling and have someone watching the tv at the same time.
On the upside you can hook the slingbox to your DVR. You can watch live TV and you can also access your DVR content. If you have On Demand, you can also watch on demand shows. Between the on demand, your DVR content, and EVERY channel of real live TV the slingbox is by far and away the most robust solution. If you want TV now, and you think you might want it 2 years from now it's a no brainer.
Also, slingboxes are very expensive on the secondary market. A year or two from now, your $165 slingbox is probably worth over $100 if they hold their value. It's very hard to find one used, and you cannot find a used one for less than $100. I checked craigslist and ebay.
Not to mention you can watch your tv on your computer, or any internet computer. Don't get the HD version, not worth the money.
Slingbox. You pay once and that's it. Been using for 3 years and it has already paid for itself compared to monthly subscriptions.
