What is the best iPad for me?

Last night I picked up the new 12.9 iPad pro 2 and it is an amazing device. Its just too big for me. I am using an iPad for reading legal documents, youtube, and Facebook.

I want to get a smaller one, but don't know which one to buy. At best buy looks like the 2017 iPad is $329, last years iPad pro 32gb is $350 and the new 64gb iPad Pro is $599. I will never use an apple pencil, but the extra real estate with the 10.5in might help with my document reading.

What do you suggest?

I would choose either Pro model. The display is better and it has other features the $329 iPad does not. (The Pro also has quad speakers and Tru-Tone) The $329 iPad also does not include the laminate display, which potentially could be an issue for reflectivity.

If I had to choose one, the 10.5 iPad is my choice. The extra display and Promotion 120 Hz refresh rate makes the experience better.

Since you just got the 12.9 I would suggest giving it a bit more time since you have 14 days to return it -- no questions asked. I do legal docs and reading on my iPad too and the 12.9 has been a tremendous boost to my productivity because I can see more of the page so less scrolling around and also easier to read pages and apps when I put them in side-by-side mode. Previously my main iPad was the 9.7" models. The key to me enjoying my 12.9" was to not put it in a case. That made it too heavy. It's great naked -- maybe a lightweight back case.

As for the Pencil, also never say never. I use mine to edit and it's fantastic. I also use an App that I discovered while playing on Apple's iPads called Nebo which has handwriting to text functionality. I'll jot down thoughts, brainstorm, whatever and it converts it to text and I can export it into Word or PDF. Before I know it I have a memo almost automatically written. It also can make bullet point lists. Really handy and "light" app, unlike, say Word which can be too much at times. It's $2.99 and the really amazing thing about it is... it can read my chicken scratch. Heck, half the time I can't read my writing when I go back to review it.

So if you give the 12.9 a week and still don't like it I would go for the 10.5. The 9.7 iPP is nice too but I get the feeling you went for the 12.9 because you wanted more screen. If you don't keep the 12.9 it's because it feels too bulky -- but guessing you still want a big screen. That is 10.5.

The regular iPad is kinda junky by Apple Standards IMHO. It's for people that are not sure they even want an iPad or won't use it that much. I think it's true purpose is to get people to feel good about upgrading to one of the Pro models.
