What is the best RAM for PowerMac G5?

I just got the PowerMac G5 in my sig from Apple Refurb, and I want more RAM. I currently have it maxed out at 4 x 256 MB RAM sticks. But I need more as I run all kinds of RAM intensive programs.

What is the best, cheapest RAM for the G5's? Preferably with a one-year warranty.

Yes, Crucial does offer a warranty. I've installed many Crucial sticks over the past two years and we haven't had a single failure.

Most memory sellers just sell guaranteed compatible RAM. They don't produce the memory themselves.

Thanks. I think I will get the cheaper one then, and save up for a new video card. This one I have could be wayyyyyy better.

Yeah, Crucial and DataMem are the most commonly mentioned answers to memory buying questions. They off 100% compatible memory. You go to NewEgg or TigerDirect and you might end up with RAM that won't work in a Mac.

Is there any list for these compatiable memories? Like kingston value rams, corsair or ocz value rams? Memories PM g5 usually are made by which chip company? Samsung, Hynix, Micron? How about timing? 3-3-3-8 1T (30330)?

if anybody in the UK has recently purchased some ram for their G5 let me know. [2x2Ghz 4 dimm slots]


looking for some ram urgently. obvoiusly crucial and kingston. but any others, maybe a little cheaper?

As you can see from the thread replies, other members suffered from the same experience. Crucial has been warned about that thread, and so far more than 1260 people accessed it. The internet is a powerfull weapon, I would be happy to know they halted that policy because of the thread, the words spreads out fast. Well, I don't trust them anymore, and I think it should be wise checking for that policy practice before buying from them, now or in the future.

one that i haven't seen mentioned yet is 'super talent'. details HERE.

dual G5 1.8 with 4gb (4x1gb) of this ram, two years, no problems. heat spreaders already on the chips. just my two cents.

www.scan.co.uk DOES offer good offers on RAM. some work, some don't. Try and find on te site if it is compatible with the mac. Either way, check the specs of it and if it matches, it would be a good idea to buy it.

ill just chime in since no one else has said this.

I bought all 6GB of my ram from OWC. I haven't had a single problem with them. and they offer a lifetime replacement warranty.

they are great to deal with in my opinion. i have also bought from DMS in the past with no problems. But i would choose OWC any day of the week.

hmm well as unhappy as i am about getting it from crucial....

i know of no other UK based seller who will absolutely guarantee compatibility [except maybe kingston] ... so may just have to go with crucial agian.
