Hi, I lost free access to Acrobat Acrobat. What is the best replacement for this software for filling in pdf forms?

I like PDF Expert. It isn’t free but, it is the best around, in my opinion.
I have it installed. It looks like I click somewhere on the to-be-filled space, type somethings and a text box is created. Then, I click on the text box and the arrow keys to align the text boxes. Is this the way to fill in a form?

Do you just need to fill in forms that have already been created and saved as a PDF, or do you need to design the forms? Because the free Acrobat Reader DC and even Preview can fill in PDF forms. At work I use Acrobat Reader DC, since it can use smart cards for digital signing (like our work badges, US Government PIVs and DoD CACs) after filling in the form.

Here's another vote for the built-in preview app. If the forms have pre-defined fields, you can just type away. If not, you can add text fields & enter your text that way.

I only need to fill in the form. I tried to type something in the fields under Preview but it did not allow me to do so.

You can add text one of two ways in Preview (on a Mac). I'm no expert, but it looks like it depends on how the form was created. It if was created with typeable text fields, then you can just type your comments into the boxes. If that doesn't work, then you need to add a text box (tools > Annotate >text), move the box to where you want it & then type in your comments.

You can also scan in a copy of your signature which you can append to documents.

Thank you

"Replacement" depends entirely on the level of experience you have with Acrobat and the extent to which you use the features in Acrobat. In your case, you can use the free Preview app, Acrobat Reader, or any one of dozens upon dozens of third-party apps available. But for many other pros, there is simply no replacement available.
