What is the best time to buy a new Mac? (promo freebie available?)

i want to buy a macbook 12" specced out at the top. it will cost $2029 after tax. right now we are ending june 2018. my question is, does apple give out free headphones every september if you buy a mac as a back to school promo? or something similar with gift cards or so during xmas? i can wait a few months if i can grab a freebie...

someone here must know apple's trends for sales and would be able to answer this as a black and white question.

There are periodic deals from places such as Best Buy:

but they may not offer the configuration you want.

and as you saw Apple did offer free headphones last year:

but there is no guarantee if there will be a promo this year, or what it will be.

University Apple stores often offer students great prices.

So there are a variety of strategies you can follow:

1. Wait to see if there is a student promo this year
2. Wait for retail sales, at places such as as Best Buy, B&H
3. Wait for Black Friday and Christmas sales, hoping that the configuration you want goes on sale

The refresh of those is long overdue. Nobody really knows what's holding them up.

Of course, once the new ones are there, you can't order old ones anymore. Especially CTOs.
