What is the best way to clean a white Macbook

I have just ordered a white Macbook (with 1GB RAM instead) and I've heard there are problems with discoloration. Is my newly ordered MacBook going to be vunerable to discolorations?

What is the best way to clean a white MacBook from general use? What products do Apple retail stores use to clean their white Macbooks?

At the present time, there is no official cleaning method for the white MacBook. I suggest that you get a comfortable pair of white gloves to go with your comfortable white MacBook.

You will not be affected by this problem, this was only a flaw in the very first Macbooks, which used a different kind of plastic

I hope so! I have seen other mac forums and blogs where recent purchases of the white macbook developed the discoloration. Is there recent buyers of the white macbook that have had no discoloration problems as of yet

I shall post back to let you know if I get this discoloration.

I just wish I didn't buy my mac. I tried to cancel my order, that I made 2 days ago, but they have already shipped it. For me to ship it back, it will cost £60! I understand beng charged for shipping it back but £60 is excessively for a laptop return!

If you have that problem, Apple will replace the top case for you. It's a warranty repair since it is a manufacturing defect.

Well there is n such thing as customer service at Apple. One service rep said that they are aware of the discoloration and stated that I would get a rebate for posting my white macbook if I buy a black macbook instead.

I looked on the returns policy and saw nothing about delivery rebates so I rang Apple again. This time the CS rep mentioned that Apple test all products before they ship and that if there are general wear and tear, including discoloration, that I will not be covered as its regarded as 'general wear & tear'.

This is my first time experience with Apple's customer service. I'm not impressed with it.

Maybe they weren't impessed with you.

Don't forget that the people you're talking to on the phone are just that - people. They don't own Apple, and they're not responsible for the problems that you've encountered with Apple products.

If you're polite to the person on the phone, they'll probably be polite to you in return.

If you talk down to the person on the other end of the line, and expect them to solve your every problem immediately, then they're probably going to be less helpful. Personally, I've never had a problem with Apple Care.

If you are in England, then use a none-abrasive window cleaner. Windowlean do a clear one in a squirty bottle, im pretty sure its suitable. But check first! I am not responsible if it all goes wrong! This is a disclaimer!

I just use damp tissues with a sock or something soft to dry off, this is best for the screen I find - no scratches at all. Considering it sits on my desk, my MacBook does seem to get inexplicably dirty!

Not sure how you rationalised that I was ill-mannered to Apple's customer service department? Just because I don't like the service I recieved does not mean I recipricated with being rude or aggressive.

I was argumentative but not rude or aggressive. I even thew in a joke to stop the reps going into 'defense' mode.

As homo sapians we are able to express our arguments without having to be discorteous - just like all good politicians do. Mind you they do have good spin doctors that help them win their arguments!

To not be in a situation of discolorment, I have invested in a Marware Macbook protector. Hopefully this will stop me from having to call Apple.

Yes you do — it's made by that lame JML company that sells tat on the telly. I've bought it in Boots and Woolworths, and when they were out of stock one time I bought one off eBay for £3 posted.

I think this thread is talking about different things. I believe the question was about the brownish discoloration on the palmrests of the white Macbook. There is no way to remove this, but Apple WILL replace the discolored part. This is because the plastic used for some of these is porous and absorbs oil and grease, causing the discoloration (and cleaning your hands won't work, unless you wear gloves)
