I've been in a bit of a bind since upgrading to iPhone X and getting a iMac (high Sierra) last December. I'm new to MacOS (was using PC prior to this) so its a bit hard to isolate if its an iPhone X issue or iMac. all I am trying to do is import from the X to iMac and then transfer the files to a external hd as backup.

iPhone X settings are
- high efficiency format for camera (should I switch it to most compatible?)
- 4K at 30fps

ive tried 1) photos app which imports the pics/videos the fastest but to me it isn't user friendly since I want the actual jpg/mov/heic files and my library has duplicates now since it was sourcing iCloud automatically as well my iPhone.

2) image capture - slowest way of importing, took 8+ hours import 4K videos and it failed on more than half if the videos (approx 40gb) with ImageCaptureCore error -9937. its similar to the drag and drop approach on the PC which I did with my previous iPhones but most of the time it doesn't work.

apple/genuis bar support isn't of much help and have been giving the generic answers such as restoring phone and or restarting Mac/phone when I reached out about the Image Capture error. I'm hoping to get some suggestions on what you found was the best way to import your pics on iMac and/or if you guys experienced the same image capture issue. any tips and suggestions is appreciated

I find it interesting that the import is slower in image capture. I always thought the time would be roughly the same as they probably use the same technology to perform the import. Could it be that the phone was busy communicating with iTunes or Photos at the time when you tried the image capture method? Have you compared this to other Macs or iPhones by chance?
