hey guys i currently own a 3g iphone, and im opening a family plan tomorrow with att. i was wondering if i did not want to pay the $30 a month internet fee is there any other way to get data on your iphone?

The last time I spoke with an AT&T customer service rep about data plans I was told they had two, one at $15 and one at $30. I was also told the iPhone had to be on the $30. Although it's not what you said specifically, just a heads up...AT&T doesn't have a family data plan package. So it's $30 per smart phone.

They do have family voice plans though, so you can combine and save a little dough.

I do wish they offered a data-only plan, as I never use voice.

But what the hey, with the family plan, my half of the bill is $40, and that's equal to the bill I used to pay when I had my Blackberry, which was data-only, so I ain't complainin'.

(Yes, I have the original iPhone, not the 3G)

Yeah, I have a plan with family voice and family texting. In the near future I'll be adding 3 more smart phones to my carrier. And AT&T will either come up with family data or lose a customer. I don't even know if any carriers have family data, but I know of a few that are cheaper and have better coverage in my area.

I hope to see competition force family data on AT&T.
