Which version of video does iTunes default to when adding content to iPad; standard def versions, or high def?

I'm assuming/hoping it is the HD version, but HD movies and TV will eat up space with the quickness.

MP4 or M4V. But they're the same thing.

And it will most certainly use 720p when possible.

I was referring to HD content purchased from the iTunes store. MP4 or M4V is irrelevant. When you purchase HD content from iTunes store you also get a standard def version that will be the default when you add to phone or pod.

I am looking for someone that can say for sure, not speculate, which version is the default when adding to iPad. SD files are usually 1/3 the size of their HD counterpart. "Most certainly" seems a little off that I would need to use the same file that shines on my 46 inch bravia on a 9.7 inch screen.

iTunes has a checkbox to use SD by default instead of HD. So, without the option checked, by default it will use HD when available.

Ok, thanks.... just for clarification, are you talking about an iPad specific preference, or the iTunes preference under "playback" in "preferences" ???

Sounds like you are talking about the check box in iTunes preferences, which applies to playback.

Regardless of that check box, iTunes will add the SD version of anything to an ipod or iphone whenever available.

I am trying to find out, for sure, which version is getting added to the iPad by default. I realize you potentially answered this, if there is an iPad specific check box, but like I said, I sounds like you are talking about the iTunes preference under playback check box.

Many thanks.

Come on, super easy question to answer bump.

No one has any HD content they downloaded from iTunes? I guess most of people steal content.

Not sure what you still want answered. You get 720p by default if you buy HD on iTunes on your iPad.

No, it's on the Movies sync tab in iTunes when you have your iPad plugged in. Right above the list of movies available to sync. The setting in the iTunes preferences affects only playback on your Mac.

Awesome, many thanks.
