What is the difference between a 1G and a 2G?

My question is pretty straight forward.
Is there a difference between a 1G and a 2G iPhone.
If it's just software then why bother having the 2G, it's the same if upgraded?
 
If I understand your question correctly here is the answer.

1g refers to "first generation iPhone" which uses the Edge network for data.
2g probably refers to the "second generation iPhone" which uses 3G for data.

You will typically see the phones referred to as "2g and 3G" incorrectly. There is the first generation phone. And the 3G iPhone.

And since you're in New Mexico please go to Dion's for me and get me a pastrami sandwich and a slice of pizza please.

It always confuses me... especially since there's also the question of what are they going to call the next iPhone?
Technically it will be the third so 3G but they can't do that since it there's already an iPhone 3G?

It will probably be some adjective describing it's newest features (must like the 3g). For example, it may be called the "iPhone Video" if they happen to incorporate a front facing camera for video conferencing.

Or depending on how much stronger 4G gets they may call it the iPhone 4G.

?????? iPhone 3G is the 2nd generation iPhone. There are only two generations of iPhone. "3G" represents the network, not the generation of phone.

whattttt??? there are only 2 generations of iPhones... the first generation is the iPhone with edge...the second iPhone is CALLED the iPhone 3G (3G for it's network name) not the generation name...

The biggest difference is that the 2nd generation iPhone has 3G internet connectivity which the first generation lacks. Take a look at the link below for a side-by-side spec comparison. The 2G model refers to the 1st generation and the 3G model is the 2nd generation iPhone.:):apple:
 
I don't understand how people are finding these super old threads. Sometimes, you can tell they were searching for help with something. But in this case..:confused:
