I know it been asked before but there are new external HDDs on the market so I was wondering, for people that sick of waiting to thunderbolt, what is the best solution right now?

Thanks!

Edit: Sorry, I have MBP, not Mac Pro... if somebody can move this thread to the right place I'd appreciate that. thanks.

Sorry I have MBP and not Mac Pro. I don't have eSata...

You have to define "best" to get a meaningful answer. Is it "biggest", "fastest", "safest", Cheapest"?

Since you mentioned ThunderBolt, I'm going to guess that you're looking for the fastest connection. The fastest connection built into your MBP is the GB Ethernet, but that comes with complications for connecting storage. The FW800 port is significantly than the USB2 Ports.

Depending on which MBP you have, you might have an ExpressCard34 port - in which case you MIGHT be able to install an eSATA card. I have no experience with ExpressCard eSATA on a MAC. I know the cards are made, but I have no idea how compatible the drivers are.

USB2 is fast enough for most purposes. FW800 is far superior and is fast enough for almost all purposes. Anything faster is going to be exotic.
